The Newly-Redesigned 2017 Jeep Compass Blazes a Path in 4x4 Capability

Can an affordable compact SUV be capable? As the 2017 Jeep Compass launches into its new generation mid model-year, it challenges Morehead's backcountry drivers to expect more.

The redesigned Jeep Compass is shedding its boxy awkwardness for a sleek, clean design that matches the rest of the modern lineup. Rather than update both models, the new Compass will be replacing its fellow affordable compact SUV, the Jeep Patriot.

The new 2017 Jeep Compass offers more than just refreshing style. It will be available with two four-wheel drive systems:

  • Jeep® Active Drive
  • Jeep Active Drive Low

Both are advanced, intelligent full-time 4x4 systems, able to send every drop of available torque to a single wheel should the need arise, and able to disconnect the rear axle for improved fuel economy when its best-in-class capability is not needed. Jeep Active Drive Low 4x4 is standard on the Compass Trailhawk model, and features a 20:1 crawl ratio and exclusive Rock mode, in addition to the Auto, Snow, Sand, and Mud terrain modes available on Jeep Active Drive.
